Associate Professor Akira Kawa and colleagues, in a collaborative study with the University of Tsukuba, the Institute for Protein Research at Osaka University, Kyoto University, and Tohoku University, have developed a technique to graft foreign antigen sequences onto proteins to bind antibodies.
This technology enables the binding of antibodies to proteins that previously had no directly binding antibodies, potentially revealing their three-dimensional structural information through X-ray crystallography and single-particle electron microscopy.
The results were published in Acta Crystallographica Section D, Structural Biology on April 19, 2021.
