Press Release 2020.09.30

NTT DOCOMO Inc. Tohoku Branch commenced providing 5G service at Aobayama New Campus starting September 30, 2020.  Centered around the Advanced Logistics Transport System Research Project (Project leader: Prof. Hidetoshi Matsuki, project was completed in March 2023), we plan to promote research and development, demonstration experiments, and other activities utilizing this 5G environment going forward.

NTT DOCOMO Inc. Tohoku Branch provision of 5G at Aobayama New Campus stems from the company endorsement of the project efforts to address regional challenges using next-generation mobility technologies, including autonomous driving. Discussions regarding installation have been underway since 2018.

Furthermore, this project actively contributes to national initiatives promoting radio wave utilization, as evidenced by the Radio Wave Day Award presented by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Tohoku Regional Communications Bureau on June 1, 2019.

With the cooperation of NTT DOCOMO Inc. Tohoku Branch, we will actively pursue industry-academia collaboration to leverage radio wave technologies such as 5G. This will contribute to creating new mobility usage scenarios and solving transportation issues.
