Tetsuo Shouji (NICHe Senior Research Fellow) receives Marcel Pourbaix Award by the International Corrosion Council.
Senior Research Fellow Shouji was awarded this prize for his achievements in contributing to international cooperation in corrosion science and engineering by taking the lead in research internationally and organizing international industry-government-academia joint research, based on his pioneering proposal of a mechanism for stress corrosion cracking caused by the synergistic effects of mechanical, chemical, and electrochemical actions, and the formulation of a crack propagation rate based on that mechanism.
The award ceremony and award lecture were scheduled to be held in May 2020 at the 21st International Corrosion Conference (in São Paulo, Brazil), but due to the impact of COVID-19, it was postponed and held online, with the award lecture taking place at the opening ceremony of the conference on July 20, 2021.
